Privacy policy

This privacy policy describes how personal data is processed on usejabp.app while the product is in development.

Scope

This policy applies to the public website and to processing carried out when the JABP Newsletter signup is used and when newsletter emails are sent. It does not describe future processing in the JustAnotherBudgetPlanner application or other online services that have not been activated.

The website remains mostly static and does not use web analytics or advertising. Only the services described in this policy are used for the newsletter.

Hosting and technical access data

The website is hosted by Hetzner. Where necessary for delivery, maintenance and security, the hosting provider may process technical request data.

For operation, maintenance, and security, the hosting provider and authorised server administrators may access or process technical request data where necessary for their respective technical tasks.

When the website is accessed, the browser sends technically necessary request data to the web server. This may include the IP address, date and time, requested page or file, HTTP method and status code, transferred data volume, referrer, and information about the browser and operating system. Depending on the server configuration, such information may be stored temporarily in access or security logs.

This processing is used to deliver the website, maintain its stability and security, diagnose faults and prevent misuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interests are the secure and reliable operation of the website.

Log data is deleted or anonymised when it is no longer required for operation, security and fault diagnosis. It may be retained for longer only where a specific security incident or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims requires this.

Local language and appearance preferences

On the first visit, the preferred browser language is evaluated to select the German or English version of the website. Browser settings with a German language code lead to the German version; all other language settings lead to the English version. No location lookup or Geo-IP processing takes place.

The website initially follows the device's light or dark appearance setting. An explicitly selected language and a choice of System, Light or Dark are stored only in the browser's local storage so that the choice can be retained for later visits.

These preference values remain on the device, are not linked to a user profile, are not used for tracking and are not sent to the website or another provider. They can be removed through the browser's controls for website data.

Contact by email

When you contact the website operator by email, your email address, message content and technical delivery data are transmitted. This information is processed to handle and answer the enquiry.

The legal basis is generally Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, based on the legitimate interest in handling incoming enquiries. Where an enquiry concerns entering into a contract or pre-contractual steps, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR may apply.

Message data is deleted once the enquiry has been fully resolved unless statutory retention obligations or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims require otherwise. The email infrastructure services used by the sender and recipient may be involved in technical delivery.

The website itself does not currently use a contact form.

Development newsletter and beta updates

When you subscribe to the JABP Newsletter, we process your email address, the language used for the subscription, your selected newsletter or update interest and, where selected, your interests in the iOS, Android and Web platforms.

This data is used to occasionally send you information about the development of JustAnotherBudgetPlanner, important milestones and the launch or availability of beta or public releases. There is no fixed sending schedule.

Newsletter processing is based on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Newsletter emails are also sent in accordance with Section 174 of the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021. You may withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future, in particular through the unsubscribe link included in every newsletter email or by emailing [email protected]. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Subscription uses a double opt-in process. After submitting the signup form, you receive an email containing a confirmation link. The newsletter subscription is completed only after this link has been confirmed. Information about the signup and confirmation status is processed where necessary to manage the subscription and demonstrate consent.

Newsletter subscriber data is processed using the self-hosted Keila newsletter software and a PostgreSQL database on the JABP server infrastructure. Brevo is used as the SMTP and email delivery provider. Brevo therefore receives data required for delivery, in particular the email address and technical sending and delivery information. Brevo states that its databases are processed and stored within the European Union.

For emails delivered through Brevo, “Anonymous email tracking” is enabled. Brevo may count aggregate opens and clicks; these events are not associated with individual newsletter contacts. JABP does not use individual open or click data for profiling or contact-level segmentation.

Newsletter data is generally stored for as long as the subscription remains active. After unsubscribing or withdrawing consent, limited information may continue to be stored where necessary to honour the unsubscribe request, prevent further unwanted messages or demonstrate previously given consent. Where no such reason remains, the data is deleted.

You can end the subscription through the unsubscribe link included in every newsletter email. Privacy and data requests, including requests for access or erasure, can be sent to [email protected].

No website analytics

The website uses no web analytics, advertising, marketing trackers or third-party analytics. It uses no analytics or marketing cookies and no cookie consent tool.

No user profiles are created for analytics or advertising purposes (profiling). No solely automated decision-making producing legal or similarly significant effects takes place.

Data subject rights

Where the relevant legal requirements are met, data subjects have the following rights in particular:

Data subjects have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority in Austria is the Austrian Data Protection Authority.

This policy will be updated when the described processing activities change or additional online services are introduced. The version published on this page is the current version.
